Back up and restore DINE OS
How the owner exports and restores the DINE OS database, and what happens during a restore.
The owner can export the DINE OS database as a backup file and restore from one. Treat backup files with care: each one holds every order, bill and setting.
Make a backup
- Sign in as the owner, at a quiet time when no orders are open.
- Export the database and save the file.
- Copy the file somewhere off the restaurant computer, such as an external drive kept at home, so one fault or theft cannot take both.
- Name it with the date, so you can tell backups apart.
How often is your decision: the backup is your safety net for everything since the last one. A daily backup after closing is a sensible minimum for most restaurants.
Restore a backup
- A restore checks the file first and keeps a safety copy of the current database, so you can go back if you chose the wrong file.
- DINE OS needs a restart after a restore.
- After the restart, check the latest bills and the menu before you take orders.
Keep backups safe
- Keep backups off the restaurant computer, somewhere only you can reach.
- Practise a restore on a spare computer now and then, so you know the backups work before you need them.
- If you need help with a restore, contact support with the product version and what you see.
