Use a barcode scanner

Most USB and wireless barcode scanners work like a keyboard: they type the code into the field that has focus. On the BILL OS sales screen, the product search box accepts a scan.

Set up

1. Plug in the scanner and open Notepad. Scan a product: the number should appear.
2. Most scanners add Enter after each scan; this is what billing usually expects.
3. Open the sales screen and scan into the search box.

Phone camera scanning

On phones, BILL OS can scan with the camera in browsers that include a built-in barcode reader (Chrome on Android, and Chrome or Edge on many computers). Where the browser does not support it, the camera button is hidden.

If scans do not work

• The scanner may be set to a keyboard language that changes characters; set it to US keyboard.
• Check that the search box has focus before scanning.
• A code used on two products asks you to fix the duplicate instead of guessing.
