BILL OS · Data safety
Backups you have checked, before you need them
A backup that has never been checked is only a hope. BILL OS verifies its backups, keeps a second copy where you choose, and makes every restore reversible.
How it works
Step by step, and why each step matters.
Each step says what the software does, then what it means for your business.
- 01
Automatic backups
Backups run daily by default (hourly if you choose), and before every upgrade and every restore.
There is always a recent copy, without anyone remembering to make one.
- 02
Verify
Each backup has a checksum. Verify checks the database and every profile picture; a tampered, corrupt or incomplete backup fails and can never be restored.
You find a bad backup before you need it.
- 03
Keep a second copy
Set a second folder, such as a USB drive, a network share or a synced folder, and every backup is copied there and checked.
A failed disk does not take the backups with it.
- 04
Restore safely
A restore checks the backup again and takes a safety copy of what it replaces. BILL OS then restarts.
A restore can never leave you worse off than before.
Worth knowing
The details that matter.
Rehearsed failures
Destroying and restoring a shop, and stopping the program in the middle of a sale or a backup, are rehearsed by automated drills with every test run.
Upgrades that roll back
Updates take a backup first and go back to the previous version by themselves if the new one cannot start.
Protect the computer too
BILL OS does not encrypt its database or backups. Use disk encryption, and protect the backup folder and any second location.
Questions
About backups and recovery.
Where is my data kept?
On the shop computer, in the Windows user’s local app data folder. Uninstalling asks before removing it, and keeps it by default.
