Back up and restore BILL OS
How BILL OS backups work, how to verify them, keep a second copy and restore safely.
Automatic backups
BILL OS backs up automatically every day, and before every upgrade and every restore. Each backup includes the database and profile pictures, with a checksum.
Verify
In Settings → Backups, use Verify on a backup. It checks the database and every picture; a tampered, corrupt or incomplete backup fails verification and can never be restored.
Keep a second copy
BILL OS can copy every backup to a second folder, such as a USB drive, a network share or a synced folder, and check the copy. Ask us how to set this up on your computer. Keep at least one copy off the shop computer.
Restore
- Open Settings → Backups and choose the backup, or use Choose Backup File… to pick one from a USB drive or another folder.
- BILL OS checks the backup again and takes a safety copy of your current data first.
- BILL OS restarts after a restore. Sign in again.
A single backup file restores the records; profile pictures need the full backup folder.
Protect your backups
Backups are not encrypted by BILL OS. Keep them somewhere only you can reach, and use disk encryption on the computer.
