Update BILL OS
How BILL OS updates itself, how to update manually with a newer setup program, and what happens if an update cannot start.
Automatic updates
In Settings → Updates, BILL OS checks for a new version every few hours, downloads it in the background, verifies its SHA-256 checksum, and installs it at the next start or when you choose Restart and update now. If the new version cannot start, BILL OS goes back to the previous version by itself.
Update with a setup program
Run a newer setup program over the installed copy; BILL OS may be running. The setup stops BILL OS, takes a backup, upgrades the database, checks it, and only then replaces the program. If any step fails, the installed version and your data stay exactly as they were.
Before and after
- Read the release notes for what changed.
- An older setup over a newer copy asks before going back.
- After upgrading from version 1.3.x, everyone signs in again once. Data is unaffected.
