The formula

Safety stock = daily sales × safety days.

Reorder point = daily sales × lead time + safety stock.

Order quantity = daily sales × days of cover.

Worked example

You sell 12 a day, the supplier takes 4 days and you want 2 days of safety stock. Safety stock is 24 units, so reorder when stock falls to 12 × 4 + 24 = 72 units. Two weeks of cover is an order of 168 units.

Questions about this calculator

What if my sales change by season?

Recalculate the reorder point before the season starts using recent daily sales, and again when it ends. A reorder point is only as good as the daily average behind it.

Do I need a reorder point for every item?

Start with the items you cannot afford to run out of and those with long supplier lead times. Slow, cheap items can be reviewed on a schedule instead.
